The muscular styling of the GL-Class suggests an SUV with plenty of power and torque - and it doesn’t disappoint. A choice of three formidable engines includes the GL 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, which incorporates an array of smart energy saving measures without compromising performance.
With its large dimensions, long wheelbase and generous ground clearance, the GL-Class cuts an imposing figure. Wherever you look, angled surfaces sit alongside gentle curves and lines, the tension between them creating a dramatic visual language. Head-on, the GL-Class exudes energy and power with the radiator grille’s bold trapezoid design mirrored by the air intake and stainless steel underguard. Eye-catching details include fog lamps and daytime driving lamps in chrome-look surrounds - or distinctive LED daytime running lights if the Sports Styling Package is specified. Two understated powerdomes adorn the bonnet and a subtle shoulder line sweeps back to the powerful, muscular rear. There you’ll find LED tail lights and indicators, plus tailpipes partially integrated into the underguard. For the GL-Class, metallic paint finishes include Tenorite Grey and Palladium Silver. 19” alloy wheels come as standard, with 20” alloys and 21” AMG alloys available as options.
From the distinctive instrument cluster with 3D style display to the multi-function steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather, every element of the GL-Class interior has been carefully considered and beautifully executed. A selection of top-quality materials includes a choice of three seating upholsteries – Artico artificial leather, leather and nappa leather. All have a grained finish and are available in Black, Alpaca Grey and Cashmere Beige. Two-tone colourways in Black / Alpaca Grey and Black / Cashmere Beige are also available.* And if that wasn't enough, all seats are finished with piping and top-stitching – another example of the superb attention-to-detail throughout. Continuing the refined, opulent theme, trim elements include Bird’s-Eye Poplar wood, Burr Walnut with chrome, Pale Birch with chrome and Anthracite Poplar wood with chrome.
If your lifestyle demands a spacious, flexible vehicle, the GL-Class is the perfect solution. Climb inside and you’ll discover a generously proportioned 5-seater with ample loadspace in the rear. Should more seating be required, the third row folds up at the touch of a button, transforming the GL-Class into a 7-seater with impressive headroom and legroom for all passengers. If more loadspace is needed, simply fold the second and third rows flat to create a vast cargo area of 2,300 litres. Or you can have the best of both worlds, keeping the third row flat and folding the second row backrests down in a 1/3 : 2/3 split. Whatever you want to use it for, the GL-Class is up to the task.
Standard on the GL-Class, 7G-Tronic automatic transmission ensures a superior driving experience. With seven forward gears, two ‘driver engaged’ reverse gears and an advanced electronic transmission control system, 7G-Tronic ensures you are always in the most suitable gear for any driving situation. Drivers can select automatic gears (P, N, R, and D) using the Direct Select lever on the steering column or change gears manually using the steering wheel mounted shift paddles. Either way, changes are quick, smooth and precise. Crucially, 7G-Tronic helps reduce average engine speeds and, in turn, cut fuel consumption by up to 0.6 litres per 100 km. In addition, it reduces engine noise levels for a more peaceful, relaxed journey.

With AirMATIC air suspension as standard, the GL-Class delivers a flawless ride, whatever the surface. AirMATIC works in tandem with the vehicle’s advanced chassis design to maintain a constant ride height, regardless of the load being carried. In addition, ride height is automatically lowered at higher speeds to improve aerodynamics and stability. If required, drivers can raise or lower the ride height manually from +60mm to -30mm. To bring the best out of the suspension set-up, the GL-Class includes Direct Steering variable power assistance system. Based around an innovative rack-and-pinion design, Direct Steering significantly reduces the number of turns required from lock to lock at low speeds – so manoeuvring the GL-Class around city streets is easier than ever. It also provides deft, precise handling on winding country roads and good straight-line stability for high-speed motorway driving.
Combining ergonomic design with exquisite materials, the GL-Class cabin sets the standard for comfort amongst premium SUVs. All occupants enjoy generous headroom and legroom, even in the third row, and easy access is assured thanks to the high roof edge and large door opening angle of up to 64°. Seats are electrically adjustable for cushion depth, seat height and backrest angle and individual settings can be stored with the Memory Package* (standard on the GL 500). Heated front seats come as standard and offer 4-way electric lumbar support for the driver and front passenger. Multi-contour front seats* (standard on the GL 500) feature individually adjustable air chambers so you can tailor support to suit your needs.
Protecting you, your passengers, and other road users is our foremost concern at Mercedes-Benz. So we’ve fitted the GL-Class with a range of systems to promote safer driving. When combined with active safety features such as our acclaimed Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®) and Four-wheel Electronic Traction System (4ETS), these significantly reduce the risk of accidents. The optional Intelligent Light System easily adapts to your journey by distributing light according to driving and weather conditions.
The GL-Class combines on-road luxury and refinement with genuine off-road credentials. Leave the asphalt behind and the vehicle comes into its own, using a range of technologies to tame the toughest terrain. Permanent four-wheel drive and a 50:50 torque distribution make light work of poor road surfaces and if you venture into really rough country, simply hit the Off-Road button. This activates the ESP® / 4ETS dynamic handling control system, with specially configured Off-Road ABS for maximum traction on challenging ground. Off-Road ASR helps prevent slippage on tricky surfaces such as gravel while Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) enables safe, controlled descents. Likewise, Hill Start Assist enhances safety when you’re making a climb.
Standard on the GL-Class, the COMAND (Cockpit Management and Navigation Display) multimedia system incorporates a number of small but significant improvements on the previous generation. Drivers can choose an ECO navigation option, which plots the most fuel-efficient route to your destination. In addition, music volume is now automatically reduced during navigation announcements and the radio can display RDS text such as song titles if available. Core features include advanced Hark Disk Drive Map navigation, DVD audio and video, radio / CD, mp3 compatibility, and Bluetooth® connectivity. Other features include Music Register and an SD card slot that supports up to 32GB capacity. An optional TV tuner lets front-seat occupants watch television on the head unit’s 6.5” colour display - provided the car is stationary or travelling below 3 mph.
