The E-Class Saloon offers a range of diesel engines, all BlueEFFICIENCY-optimised to minimise fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
A choice of three 4-cylinder units includes the E 200 CDI - the lowest emitting model at just 137 g/km CO2 – and the E 220 CDI, which does 48.7 mpg combined with automatic transmission. The manual version is even more frugal, clocking up 53.3 mpg with CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km. The E 250 CDI manual not only matches these figures but also offers even greater power and torque. As with the E 220 CDI, Benefit in Kind is just 19%, making it an attractive option for fleet use. For those who crave more muscular performance, the new 6-cylinder E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY delivers a significant increase in both power and torque to elevate its 0 – 62 mph acceleration to a swift 6.2 seconds. CO2 emissions and fuel consumption have also improved, with the engine delivering from 162 g/km and achieving 45.6 mpg respectively. Finally, the new E 350 BlueTEC engine is introduced into the range, benefiting from Euro VI compliance and offering CO2 emissions of 184 g/km. The BlueTEC technology employs AdBlue, an odourless urea solution that is injected into the hot exhaust gases which significantly reduces nitrous oxide emissions.
Petrol options for the E-Class Saloon include two 4-cylinder direct injection BlueEFFICIENCY units – the E 200 CGI and E 250 CGI. Both engines are turbocharged for optimum power and efficiency. With CO2 emissions from just 169 g/km and 179 g/km respectively, Benefit in Kind is as low as 21%. Taking things up a notch, the 6-cylinder E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY uses the same advanced direct injection technology to deliver exhilarating performance as cleanly as possible. The result is a combination of potent acceleration (0 – 62 mph in 6.8 seconds) and CO2 emissions of 201 g/km. Should even more power be required, the formidable E 500 generates up to 387 hp (285 kW) and can reach 62 mph from a standing start in just 5.2 seconds.
The E-Class Saloon’s impeccable ride quality is founded on a range of advanced suspension set-ups. Fitted as standard, Direct Control with selective damping adapts shock absorption to suit the driving situation. During normal driving, suspension takes on softer characteristics for optimum comfort. When driving is more dynamic, damping becomes firmer to maximise stability. For added agility, we’ve developed a sports-orientated version of Direct Control. Available as standard on the Avantgarde and Sport models, the suspension is lowered by 15mm and offers even more taut handling and response. Finally, there’s our state-of-the-art AirMATIC suspension. Standard on the E 500 and optional with Avantgarde and Sport model lines, AirMATIC offers a choice of sport or comfort settings. In addition, it automatically lowers or raises the suspension depending on the driving speed, thereby enhancing handling and aerodynamics.
The E 200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and E 200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY all feature 6-speed manual transmission as standard. This manual transmission offers both full Hold function and Hill Start Assist for total convenience. These systems prevent the car from rolling backwards when pulling away on an incline. The E 200 CGI, E 200 CDI and E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY models offer 5-speed automatic transmission as an option, while the E 350 BlueTEC, E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and E 500 models come equipped with the 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission as standard. This innovative system ensures seamless shifting, skipping gears to reach the most appropriate ratio as quickly as possible. Drivers can change gears using the Direct Select lever on the steering column or steering wheel shift paddles. Building on the success of the newly integrated 7G-Tronic Plus transmission in the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, 7G-Tronic Plus now also comes as standard on the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and is optional on the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model. The 7G-Tronic Plus transmission gives a more direct response during acceleration and sees enhanced durability with a new oil-change interval. With the added benefit of the coveted ECO Start / Stop fucntion, the E 250 engines give the driver the added benefits of even lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions through its ability to cut out the engine when not is use.
The eye-catching front section with distinctive dual headlamps. The rising, wedge-shaped profile. The bold contour lines and flared rear wheel arches. Everything about the E-Class Saloon suggests energy, balance and control. While it clearly shares the same DNA as its predecessor, the latest E-Class Saloon is more muscular, more athletic. Slightly larger dimensions, with an extended wheelbase and short overhangs lend the car an imposing, confident presence on the road. Meanwhile, subtle touches such as the arrow shape on the boot lid’s upper edge create a distinguished, elegant air. Naturally, the build quality is impeccable and the car’s premium feel is further enhanced by an array of exterior colours. Metallic paintwork options include Diamond White, Pearl Beige, Indigolite Blue, Palladium Silver and Exclusive Cuprite Brown.
The interior of the E-Class Saloon echoes the bold, confident design of the exterior. An emphasis on horizontal lines gives the cabin a reassuringly sturdy, structured feel – you instinctively know this is a safe place to be – and materials are of the highest standards. Build quality and finishes are flawless throughout and a wide range of design options lets you personalise the cabin to suit your tastes. These include an array of striking two-tone colour schemes, plus optional trim elements in wood and aluminium. All models feature a multi-function steering wheel and gearshift lever in exquisite nappa leather. Comfort levels are exceptional with generous headroom and legroom for all occupants, plus ergonomic seating to ease the strain of long journeys. Other highlights include ambient interior lighting on the Avantgarde and Sport models.
From business trips to weekends away, the E-Class Saloon can accommodate all your needs. Compared to its predecessor, the latest model is 32mm wider, 16mm longer, and the wheelbase has grown by some 20mm. These increased exterior dimensions translate into an even more spacious passenger compartment with plenty of headroom and legroom for all occupants. In addition, the boot lining of the E-Class Estate offers an impressive 540-litre capacity – enough room for four golf bags. The optional Easy-Pack boot box provides a secure means of stowing items such as laptops and bags. For added convenience, the E-Class Saloon features an array of handy stowage facilities throughout the passenger compartment.
Protecting you, your passengers, and other road users is our foremost concern at Mercedes-Benz. So we’ve fitted the E-Class Saloon with a range of features to promote safer driving – from the Attention Assist to adaptive brake lights. When combined with active safety features such as our acclaimed Electronic Stability Programme (ESP®), these systems significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
At Mercedes-Benz we’re constantly devising new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our vehicles across their whole life cycle. One of our latest initiatives is BlueEFFICIENCY, a programme of innovative measures engineered into our vehicles to reduce emissions and improve fuel economy. We’re steadily rolling it out across the Mercedes-Benz range and it features on all E-Class Saloons apart from the most powerful V8 model. BlueEFFICIENCY initiatives range from advanced engine management systems to smaller, more aerodynamic exterior mirrors. Essentially, we take all measures possible to enhance efficiency and performance - for example, the E-Class Saloon has tyres that produce 17% less rolling resistance than their predecessors. This attention-to-detail has resulted in the E-Class Saloon having a drag coefficient from just 0.26 Cd – a class-leading figure for a luxury saloon. In addition, all E-Class Saloon models are EU5 compliant, with CO2 emission levels ranging from 139 – 256 g/km, and the new E 350 BlueTEC engine already meets with EU6 standards.
