Rent a prestigious car: Mercedes G Class

The G-Class engines combine tremendous power with improved fuel economy and reduced emissions. The V6 engine in the G 350 BlueTEC delivers 210 hp (155 kW) and reaches a top speed of 108 mph. Maximum torque of 540 Nm is developed at 1600 rpm, and remains constant to 2400 rpm. The G 350 BlueTEC’s power is transferred to the road via the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission. For the sake of environmental protection, a particulate filter is fitted as standard.

The G 55 AMG puts incredible power at your disposal. With a displacement of 5.4 litres, the V8 supercharged engine develops up to 507 hp (373 kW) and maximum torque of 700 Nm. In addition, the chassis has been configured for sporty driving dynamics – incorporating extra-taut shock absorbers, for example – without restricting the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. Being an AMG model, it also boasts striking looks to match its muscular performance.

The G 350 BlueTEC is equipped with the 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard. This advanced 7-speed set-up delivers almost imperceptible gear changes, skipping gears when necessary to ensure you are always using the right ratio for the driving situation. This not only enables you to enjoy the superlative handling and quiet ride but also helps conserve fuel and minimise emissions. The G 55 AMG features Mercedes tried-and-trusted 5-speed automatic transmission, which harnesses the immense power and high torque of the AMG engine with consummate ease and maximum efficiency.

LThanks to a combination of a sophisticated four-wheel drive system, long spring travel and precise axle location of the rigid axles, the G-Class can take the toughest terrain in its stride. Unlike conventional independent suspension, when a wheel of the G-Class rolls over an obstacle such as a large stone, the axle housing is automatically lifted with it, ensuring a less jarring experience for its occupants. What’s more, the G-Class can master gradients of up to 80 %, remains stable on transversal slopes of up to 54 % and can ford watercourses with a depth of up to 0.6 metres. The G-Class is equally at home on the road, with supreme handling based on perfect harmonisation between the chassis, transmission, powertrain and wheel suspension. Enhanced safety and stability are provided by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) and Brake Assist (BAS). The G-Class is the only vehicle in the world to offer the Electronic Traction System (4ETS) as well as three fully lockable differentials.

Excellent rental car

Whether you’re off the beaten track or cruising city streets, one thing is guaranteed with the G-Class: exceptional comfort. In the front seats you can preset your preferred seating position electrically, while a seat heating function helps keeps cold weather at bay. The characteristic high seating position guarantees excellent all-round visibility and the ergonomic cockpit design ensures all instruments and controls are within easy reach. Throughout the cabin you’ll appreciate convenient touches such as the armrest with stowage compartment between the front seats. Meticulous attention-to-detail is also apparent in the fine-leather-trimmed steering wheel in the G 350 BlueTEC and the wood/leather steering wheel in the G 55 AMG. On both versions, the steering wheel swings upwards once you have parked, making getting in and out even easier.

When you take the wheel of the G-Class, you can enjoy total peace of mind thanks to a host of reliable electronic safety aids that are activated in critical situations. For example, if there is a risk of the vehicle skidding the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®) kicks in. It restricts the engine torque, applies the brakes at one or more wheels – depending on the specific situation - and stabilises the vehicle. In the event of an emergency stop, Brake Assist (BAS) ensures the necessary braking force is applied instantaneously. At the same time the anti-lock braking system (ABS), developed and modified especially for the G-Class, and the 4ETS Electronic Traction System for four-wheel drive vehicles help you remain in control of your vehicle during emergency situations. If an accident proves unavoidable, driver and front-passenger airbags plus windowbags standard on all models help reduce the risk of injury.

The off-road capabilities of the G-Class have assumed near legendary status amongst 4X4 aficionados – and it’s fully deserved. The permanent four-wheel drive, the 4ETS Electronic Traction System, the synchronised transfer case and the three 100% differential locks, all work together in perfect harmony to make the G-Class a match for the toughest terrain. Fitted as standard, the innovative transfer case’s off-road ratio is a key component. Activated at the touch of a switch, it generates formidable traction, enabling a stunning gradient-climbing capability of up to 80%. Similarly, the differential locks can be activated individually and in a logically specified sequence – so you can adapt the vehicle perfectly to its surroundings. If a wheel loses traction, the power is redirected to the wheels offering the best grip. Even if only one wheel is providing grip, you will still make good headway.
