On a vehicle like this, a powerful display of strength is everything. The sculpted front of the BMW M3 Convertible makes no secret of the tremendous power that lies in wait beneath the bonnet. While classic M styling, such as the M gills and chrome-plated steel twin exhaust pipes, helps underline its dynamic presence and elegance. Only the interplay of these measures ensures the desired effect: sports car performance that is ideally suited to everyday driving.
The light reflects off the fine-wood interior trim with sycamore mirror-matched grain anthracite and the M steering wheel with red-blue decorative stitching. The optional trademark dual M circular dials, the M design iDrive Controller, the ergonomically optimised M seat with memory function patiently await the arrival of the driver. All these features in the BMW M3 Convertible combine to create an ambience that is designed to make drivers feel good - and inspired to take control under the open skies.
Thanks to intelligent aerodynamics, the BMW M3 Convertible not only slices effortlessly through the air, but also channels it to where it's needed most. The intake hole next to the powerdome feeds air directly to the V8 high-rev engine. The side vents in the front apron help to cool the engine and transmission oil. And the aerodynamic wing mirrors and rear diffuser both contribute to the car's exhilarating dynamics.
Power all the way to the redline - the BMW M3 Convertible's V8 high-rev engine has genuine race-car character. Every component has been carefully optimised to maximise output and engine speed. The result? 309 kW (420 hp), up to 8,300 rpm, and 400 Nm of torque at 3,900 rpm. And that's not all: the individual throttle butterflies and engine management system ensure the engine responds rapidly to driver inputs, translating every touch of the right pedal into instant acceleration.
Taking your breath away but not your speed, the M double-clutch transmission (DCT) with Drivelogic transfers engine power to the road without the slightest disruption to tractive force. With two transmission structures the system is able to switch simply between the two, thus providing constant power to the rear wheels. Gears can be changed without the transmission of power being interrupted using either the paddles, shift lever or automatic mode for even more dynamic comfort. 0 to 100 km/h takes just 5.1 seconds, two tenths of a second faster than the manual transmission.
Developed and tested on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife: the high-performance compound brake discs fulfil the toughest of requirements on braking deceleration, durability, wet-weather performance and heat response - requirements usually only met by a sports car. These fully floating and perforated brakes react quickly and precisely, and thanks to the cross-drilled brake disc and partial use of aluminium, the system is incredibly lightweight. The result? A high-performance braking system for better everyday suitability.
